Picture Match is built for very young players with big buttons and short rounds. The chapter map shows four areas; finish rounds in one chapter to unlock the next. Each round uses a different mode, but all rely on looking carefully and dragging or tapping pictures.
Shadow matching
Silhouette slots appear at the top; colourful pictures sit below. Drag each picture to the shadow that matches its shape. A gentle hand hint may appear on the first shadow round to show the drag gesture.
Same or different
A target picture appears above a row of choices. Tap the picture that matches the target. Later rounds add mirrored or rotated options, so children learn to compare orientation as well as shape.
Word and picture
A written word sits beside a speaker button. Tap the picture that names the word, or drag the word onto its picture. Words stay lowercase and short for early readers.
Counting
Groups of small icons appear with empty number slots. Drag the correct numeral chip into the slot that matches how many objects you see.
Worked example (shadow)
If the top row shows a dark outline of a car and a flower, and the bottom row holds a bright car, a mouse, and a flower, drag the car to the car shadow and the flower to the flower shadow. Wrong drops wiggle and return to the bottom row without penalty.
Strategy tips for grown-ups
Name objects aloud. Saying “this shadow is the tractor” helps children connect contour with vocabulary.
Let the hint play once. The animated hand demonstrates dragging without solving the puzzle for them.
Short sessions. Rounds are brief; stopping after a chapter keeps play feeling like a treat rather than a test.
Mirror and upside-down rounds appear in later chapters; encourage children to flip the device or tilt their head before deciding, turning the comparison into a small spatial puzzle rather than a trick question.
