Target Rush is an arithmetic puzzle about making a target number. You get a few number tiles and the four operations. Tap a tile, then +, −, × or ÷, then a second tile, and the two merge into a single tile holding the result. Keep merging until a tile shows the target exactly. On a keyboard, the number keys pick tiles and the operator keys pick operations.
Every result must be a whole number above zero: no negatives, no zero and no fractions. A merge that breaks this is refused with a short explanation. In the Warm-up tier any tile that hits the target wins, and three stars need the fewest steps. From Every Tile on, you must use every tile. After each merge the game checks whether the target can still be reached, and tells you at once if it cannot, so you can undo a step.
Sixty puzzles run across five tiers, Warm-up, Every Tile, Tight Spots, Overshoot and Five Tiles, and a new daily puzzle is made each day. Solving without a hint earns three stars and with one hint two. The hint lights up the next two tiles and the operation to use. Your fastest time for each puzzle is saved.
Worked example
The tiles are 1, 5, 7 and 12, and the target is 17, using every tile. Adding 12 and 5 makes 17 but leaves two tiles stranded. Since 17 is prime, a final multiplication will not help either. The way through is to overshoot: 12 × 7 = 84, then 84 + 1 = 85, then 85 ÷ 5 = 17.
Strategy tips
Think about the last step. Ask which final operation could produce the target, and what the tiles must make just before it.
Look for multiples. If the target divides a number you can build, dividing back down is often the route.
Watch leftovers. Hitting the target early is no good if a tile is still waiting.
